A SQL client built specifically for Amazon Redshift, and good enough for Amazon to buy it.

WHAT THEY’RE BUILDING

DataRow was a web-based SQL client and visual analysis tool built specifically for Amazon Redshift, letting data analysts and scientists query, visualize, and collaborate on Redshift data with team management, auditing, and governance features, without installing anything.

THE FOUNDING TEAM

DataRow (originally launched as TeamSQL) was founded in 2017 by Eren Baydemir and Can Abacıgil. Eren previously co-founded and served as CTO of Mekanist.net, which was acquired by Zomato in 2015, staying on as VP of Engineering through the post-acquisition integration. Can previously founded FlightRecorder, a mobile app analytics company acquired by Clicktale in 2016, where he then led mobile development.

WHY WE BACKED THEM

Redshift had become one of the most widely used cloud data warehouses, but its tooling for analysts was still generic. DataRow's founders built the client Redshift itself lacked, narrow enough to be genuinely excellent at one thing, and that focus is exactly what made it a clean acquisition target.
