Predicting which cancer patients will actually respond to a drug, before they take it.

WHAT THEY’RE BUILDING

Genialis is a precision oncology company that develops RNA-based biomarkers using AI and machine learning to predict how individual cancer patients will respond to specific therapies, helping pharma partners de-risk drug development and design better clinical trials through its ResponderID platform.

THE FOUNDING TEAM

Genialis was founded in 2015 by Rafael Rosengarten and Miha Štajdohar, a biology-meets-computation founding team built for precision oncology. Rosengarten brings nearly two decades of biomedical research experience, with a Ph.D. from Yale and postdoctoral work at Berkeley Lab and Baylor, while Štajdohar brings deep machine learning, data science, and bioinformatics software expertise as the technical architect behind Genialis' AI-driven biomarker platform.

WHY WE BACKED THEM

Most cancer drugs fail in clinical trials, or work for only a fraction of the patients who receive them, because trials aren't designed around who will actually respond. Genialis's biology-first, data-science-rigorous approach to biomarkers attacks that mismatch directly, closing the loop between drug development and patient care.
