An open, portable cloud that costs a fraction of the hyperscalers.

Ubicloud is an open-source cloud platform that runs on affordable bare-metal servers instead of proprietary hyperscaler infrastructure, giving developers compute, managed PostgreSQL, and networking they can self-host or run as a managed service, without vendor lock-in.

Ubicloud was founded in 2023 by co-founders Özgün Erdoğan and Umur Çubukçu, together with Daniel Farina, who helped build Heroku Postgres. Özgün and Umur previously co-founded Citus Data, the distributed PostgreSQL company Microsoft acquired in 2019, where Umur was CEO and Özgün was CTO; both stayed on to lead PostgreSQL and Hyperscale (Citus) engineering at Microsoft's Azure through 2022. Özgün also built distributed systems at Amazon earlier in his career, and Umur served as a Visiting Group Partner at Y Combinator before co-founding Ubicloud.

Özgün and Umur had already built and sold a category-defining database company, and brought back Daniel, one of the engineers behind Heroku's managed Postgres, to solve cloud lock-in at its root.
